Technician Licensing Class

Our next Technician Licensing Class will be held on October 26th - 27th, 2024.

This Technician Licensing Class covers basic regulations, operating practices and electronics theory, with a focus on VHF and UHF applications.  With a Technician Class license, you will have all ham radio privileges above 30 MHz.  These privileges include the very popular 2-meter band.  Many Technician licensees enjoy using small (2 meter) hand-held radios to stay in touch with other hams in their local area.  Technicians may operate FM voice, various digital modes with their (computers), television, single-sideband voice and several other interesting modes.  You can even make international radio contacts via satellites, using relatively simple station equipment.  Technician licensees now also have additional privileges on certain HF frequencies.  Technicians may operate on the 80, 40 and 15 meter bands using Morse code, and on the 10 meter band using Morse code, voice and digital modes.

!!!!!!!! Prior to Taking The Class !!!!!!!!!!
The FCC requires applicants use their personal FCC Registration Number (FRN). It is necessary to get an FRN before you take the exam. Click the here for FRN Instructions on completing the FRN.

The question pool can be found in the Ham Radio study guide.

Online Review and Practice Exams
Use the ARRL study manual with ARRL Exam Review for Ham Radio to review chapter by chapter. Take randomly generated practice exams using questions from the actual examination question pool.

QRZ.com has an online practice exam to help you study and learn. It is much like the others above, but I found to be a very good learning tool where it allows you to study the areas you are weakest in. You can get to the ham test page here: https://qrz.com/hamtest/.

Study Guide

Our upcoming Technician Licensing Class will be using the Amateur Radio Technician Class Licensing: For 2022 through 2026 License Examinations study guide by Stephen John Horan.

This Amateur Radio Technician Class Licensing study guide prepares you for the initial FCC Amateur license examination.  The guide addresses each of the questions in the license question pool, with each chapter covering one of the ten license question areas.  For each question, the guide provides the question, the correct answer, and an explanation for that answer. Additionally, the guide explains why many of the answers to the distractions are incorrect.
